President’s Message
On behalf of the entire Foreign Language Association of Northern California (FLANC) Executive Board, I wish you an absolutely fantastic 2025-2026 academic year! 🌟 Whether you're a seasoned language professional or just embarking on your journey, you are an integral part of our vibrant FLANC community.
Your dedication to language learning is truly inspiring! It opens doors for students, strengthens our communities, and connects us to a wider world. We are thrilled to provide a platform for you to share your expertise, discover new strategies, and celebrate the incredible power of languages!
This year’s conference theme is Innovation in Language Teaching and Learning. We are beyond excited to have Ms. Liz Matchett, Executive Director of the California Language Teachers’ Association, as our keynote speaker. She will present on the topic “Finding Innovation in Community.” Additionally, we can't wait to see the many presentations on innovative approaches to language teaching and learning. We will highlight cutting-edge practices, strategies, and methodologies that advance the field and enhance the effectiveness of language education in diverse settings.
We have an amazing lineup of proposals submitted by experts from the University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; San Jose State University; Chabot College; Faculty of English Language and Culture; UC Berkeley, and the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLFLC). There will be so much to hear and learn!
Thanks to our wonderful friend and board member, Mr. Francisco Zerkmano, we are hosting this year's conference on Saturday, 25 October 2025, at Chabot College in Hayward. We are confident you will leave feeling reenergized, equipped with new strategies, and connected to a supportive community of colleagues.
