Connections, A Journal for Language Educators, Volume 13 presents a comprehensive collection of fifteen insightful contributions that explore the dynamic intersection of pedagogy, equity, and innovation in world language education.
Section One features three research articles that address affordability, identity, and authenticity: from the institutional challenges of adopting Open Educational Resources, to the lived experiences of a Venezuelan educator navigating migration and agency, to faculty perspectives on integrating authentic Korean texts across curricula. These studies underscore how access, resilience, and real-world practice shape the teaching and learning of languages.
Section Two presents twelve exploration papers that invite educators to reimagine practice through both critical and creative lenses. The collection ranges from AI-supported academic literacy models and decolonial approaches to writing instruction, to strategies for balancing accuracy and fluency, ungrading, intercultural collaboration, pragmatic competence, and community-based tutoring. Papers highlight how pedagogy responds to broader instructional and societal shifts while affirming the central role of educators in fostering learner agency and global competence.
Section Three concludes with three book reviews that extend these conversations by examining the evolving landscape of language testing, the cognitive and social power of language, and the holistic support of multicultural newcomer students. These reviews highlight resources that are both timely and essential for professional growth.
Across its three sections, this volume offers a rich dialogue on how world language education can respond to contemporary challenges while advancing practices that empower educators, learners, and communities alike.
Sincere appreciation is extended to the members of Connections Editorial Board and reviewers, whose expertise and commitment have been essential in sustaining the high standards of this publication. Their discerning judgment and thoughtful attention have strengthened the quality and rigor of every contribution. Special gratitude is offered to Dr. Branka Sarac, FLANC President, for her invaluable role in the review process and her attention to the final versions of the manuscripts. Her support and dedication have been integral to the success of this volume.
